and I know I swore to you i’d be ok but sometimes ok isn’t as happy as it seems. sometimes
ok is broken promises and wasted nights lying on the floor waiting for someone to find you
sometimes ok is hoping he won’t leave when you tell him you’ve done it again and you’re so

very sorry sometimes ok is hoping that one day you’ll be “normal” that maybe one day you
saying that you’re ok will actually mean that you’re fine.

Harvest Moon

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night away.

But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light
We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night.

Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

But now it’s gettin’ late
And the moon is climbin’ high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin’ in your eye.

Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon

I was your cure…

(You Were Killing Me)

I was your cure and you were my disease, I was saving you but you were killing me.

wonder where you are.
Please don’t come around tonight
cause I can’t stand to see you and I don’t want to fight.
Gimme one more drink and I swear I think I’ll be ready
to make the same mistakes again with you.

Saving You

The darkness takes him over,
the sickness pulls him in;
his eyes—a blown out candle,
I wish to go with him.

Sometimes I see a flicker—
a light that shone from them;
I hold him to me tightly,
before he’s gone again.

Things I Dreamed About

“The warmth of his skin was familiar. Languid, I could drift for hours on the ocean of his flesh. Eyes gazed down at me, so kind and friendly. Like frosty windows on a cabin with a wood stove. These were the things I dreamed about. The things I was reminded of. The things I thought of at long stoplights while listening to S. Carey. This was what my being ached for…”

Pieces of her heart

She left pieces of her
life behind her
she went.

It’s easier
to feel the
without them,

I fell for you again

“I can still taste the tip of your tongue

On the back of my tongue,

And your breathing,

slowly escalating,

Getting warmer,

On my neck.

Your body

My body.

Your hand,

Grasping for air,

On my hair,

Your fingertips tracing

The hills and valleys of my back.

You can have my body,

But you’ll never have my soul back.

I fell for you again,

Like the rain falls,

In the fall.

But though you pretend,

You’ve never loved me at all.

My Warrior Heart

How can
I live my
entire life
without being in
your heart

Being denied
your warmth
and light left
cold and in
the dark

without the
love and care
I’ve searched
for all my life

To have
my time end
all alone with
doom at its
climax height

My heart
it fights a
constant battle,
an endless
war inside

To look
in my heart,
is almost like
peering, into a
warrior’s eyes

Without your
love my heart
will die, for
without you
I have no shield

But not
even the death
of my warrior
heart can’t change
the love I feel

I will reach you

“You can try and hold me back. Build your damn walls, pack sandbags along the edges and yell at the clouds and the rain and the sky to stop.

But I will not relent. I will reach you. Because I am the sea. And I will continue to love you no matter what.”

Rescue comes to you

“Sometimes rescue comes to you. It just shows up, and you do nothing. Maybe you deserve it, maybe you don’t. But be ready, when it comes, to decide if you will take the outstretched hand and let it pull you ashore.”

― Sara ZarrStory of a Girl

Keep floating back

“Forgetting isn’t enough. You can paddle away from the memories and think they are gone. But they will keep floating back, again and again and agian. They circle you, like sharks. Until, unless, something, someone? Can do more than just cover the wound. ”

― Sara ZarrStory of a Girl

A tender place

❝There are certain people who come into your life, and leave a mark…their place in your heart is tender; a bruise of longing, a pulse of unfinished business. Just hearing their name pushes and pulls at you in a hundred ways, and when you try to define those hundred ways, describe them even to yourself, words are useless.❞

 Sara ZarrSweethearts

Time it was, and what a time it was, it was.
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you

You Who Never Arrived

You, Beloved, who are all
the gardens I have ever gazed at,
longing. An open window
in a country house– , and you almost
stepped out, pensive, to meet me.
Streets that I chanced upon,–
you had just walked down them and vanished.
And sometimes, in a shop, the mirrors
were still dizzy with your presence and,
startled, gave back my too-sudden image.
Who knows? Perhaps the same
bird echoed through both of us
yesterday, separate, in the evening…
